Boxing Day 2017 Alistair Rowse Bowl Trophy Race

Despite the low temperatures once again some hot competition was waiting in the wings for this annual Boxing Day event – yes…we are again racing for the highly desired cut glass fruit bowl  that is the The Alistair Rouse Trophy. As forecast the sun came out and so too did the expected wind stay in for the first lap or two. 11 boats made it to the start line which included 3 of our keen young sailors. One of these, Alex Griffiths immediately won the spot award for best start….largely for stuffing Roger’s plans for a quick get away off the line. The first lap or so saw each boat having to contend with quite shifty winds and difficult windward marks….boat places were being traded on every leg. However, the wind did die off (no amount of sprouts can help when you are wearing a drysuit!). The race was soundly won by Roger Bennett who without doubt gave us yet another masterclass example of how to get a Solo round our lake closely followed by Sue Taylor. Adam and Ray with their respective crews also again showed us that in these conditions an Enterprise is a quick boat. A worthy mention to Paul Deane for working his boat hard to be the fastest helm not from the first club division,,,well done. Congratulations to all those who sailed and made this a fun event, but also to the race officer and his support for putting on this trophy event.
